Buy iPad 2 at Rs. 24,500 in India - impact of The New iPad

While the new iPad was unveiled yesterday, Apple also announced that they would be cutting the price of the existing iPad 2. The change has been effective quite immediately in India, it seems, as an Apple PR is now saying that prices have already been slashed here.
Gautam Mahtani of Good Relations India, Apple’s local public relations firm, tweeted this morning saying that the 16GB Wi-Fi model will now sell at Rs. 24,500, while the 16GB Wi-Fi+3G model will be Rs. 32,900.

Motorola launches Atrix 2 in India for Rs 22990

Motorola Atrix 2 is now available in India for Rs 22,990. Though it does not have the best of specifications amongst high end smartphones, but it certainly offers the best for the price.

Motorola Atrix 2 comes with a 4.3-inch qHD display with a resolution of 540×960, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 8 GB internal memory which can be expanded to 32GB, 8 megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front camera as well. The phone is based on Android 2.3 OS.

Atrix 2 is also compatible with Motorola's lapdock, which is a laptop shaped docking station that has its own battery and screen but uses phones processing power to deliver laptop like experience. Currently this docking station is not available in India, however with the launch of two compatible devices (Motorola RAZR and Atrix 2) in India, we can expect the lapdock to come to our country very soon.

The well designed Motorola Atrix 2 comes preloaded with EA games. At Rs 22,990, this phone is priced in the close vicinity of phones like HTC Desire HD, HTC Radar (Windows Phone), Blackberry Bold 9780, and Samsung Galaxy R.
In terms of Android based phones, there are very few phones that are priced near the Atrix 2, and in comparison to all the above mentioned handsets, Atrix has slightly better specifications and features. Thus it will be a good buy for people looking at an Android smartphone below Rs 25,000.

183 mn mobile phones shipped to India in 2011 says Reports - Nokia Leading the race

Mobile phone shipments to India grew by 10 per cent to 183.4 million units in 2011 against 166.5 million units in 2010, says a study.

According to a CyberMedia Research study, the smartphone segment grew 87 per cent to 11.2 million units in 2011 as against 6 million units in the previous year. On the other hand, feature phone shipments increased seven per cent to 172.2 million units in 2011 from 160.5 million units in 2010.

Nokia retained its leadership position with 31 per cent share of the overall mobile phone segment, followed by Samsung at No 2 with 15 per cent and Micromax at No 3 with 5 per cent share in terms of sales (unit shipments) during 2011.

The Finnish firm was also numero uno in the smartphones segment with a 38 per cent share, followed by Samsung with 28 per cent share in 2011. RIM dropped to third place with a 15 per cent share, the study said. In 2011, the India smartphones market witnessed the launch of 150 models by over 30 vendors.

"In 2012, the proportion of smartphones with extended features like NFC and 3D gaming is likely to increase. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft and Nokia take their partnership to the next level with a new range of smart devices based on the Windows 7.5 Mango OS platform," CyberMedia Research Lead Telecoms Analyst Naveen Mishra said.

With established players like Nokia and Samsung expanding their dual-SIM portfolio, the multi-SIM category saw an year-on-year increase of 61 per cent in shipments and accounted for 57 per cent of the total shipments in 2011.

Nokia (13 per cent share) displaced G'Five to capture the top slot, while Korea's Samsung, with eight per cent share, pushed Micromax to the third slot.

"The innovative products in the Finnish vendor's portfolio helped Nokia become the market leader in the category," CyberMedia Research Telecoms Practice Analyst Tarun Pathak said. The year 2011 also saw about 250 3G handsets from about 30 vendors hitting the market and accounted for nearly 18 million units, a year-on-year growth of 153 per cent.

Nokia again emerged as the market leader in this category, followed by Samsung and RIM. "3G is a relatively new phenomenon in India with active subscribers estimated at only 15 million as of December 2011. This may be directly attributed to the lack of 3G network availability in many locations and the poor quality of service experienced by existing subscribers," Mishra said.

It will be interesting to see how new alliances and offerings emerge from handset vendors, service providers and content developers to target mobile subscribers with innovative device plus data service bundles, he added.

Apple sends Invitation for March 7, 2012 Event ; World expects iPad 3 to launched

Apple is expected to unveil a new version of the iPad at an event in San Francisco next week.

Apple sent out invitations to news media on Tuesday with an image showing part of an iPad screen. The company had been widely expected to reveal the third version of its popular tablet computer soon, close to the anniversary of the launch of the iPad 2.

The event will take place next Wednesday at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, where Apple holds larger launch events.

Since the first iPad came out in 2010, sales of traditional computers have slowed in the U.S. and other wealthy countries. Rival PC and phone makers have been unable to mirror Apple’s success with their own tablet computers. Apple has sold 55 million iPads so far, about the same as the estimated number of Mac computers in use.

Apple Inc. didn’t provide any details on the new device. Various unconfirmed reports speak of a sharper screen and faster cellular broadband options.

It’s not known when such a new device would be available for sale. Last year, sales of the iPad 2 began in the U.S. nine days after the announcement.

Huawei unveils world's first Quad-Core 10-inch tablet

Chinese Telecom Giant Huawei is offering a quad-core 10in entertainment tablet.
The product has appeared at Mobile World Congress (MWC) and tips up in an excited press announcement where we learn that it is the world's first 10in quad-core tablet.

Exciting, unless of course you have the Asus Transformer, which is a quad core tablet but has a 10.1in screen, or ZTE's just announced quad-core Tegra 3 tablet, the ZTE PF 100, which also boasts a 10.1in display.

Back in the world in which Huawei exists, the Mediapad 10 FHD has Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and some other shiny features that should appeal to consumers.

"Most consumers use tablets for entertainment purposes such as gaming, viewing multimedia content, browsing the internet and reading e-books," said Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei Device.

"We have created the HUAWEI Mediapad 10 FHD to excel in all of the entertainment capabilities including speed, power, web-browsing, high definition display and audio, and packaging it all in a compact and portable body."

Later in its statement the firm seems to acknowledge that there is competition, adding, "The Huawei Mediapad 10 FHD is the fastest quad-core tablet available," and justifying this with the explanation that it uses its 1.5GHz K3 quad-core processor to boost games and video performance.

The Huawei Mediapad has 2GB of RAM, a high-definition 1920x1200 IPS display, an 8MP rear automatic-focus camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera.

Bug in Android allows smartphones to be controlled outside : Reports

Cybersecurity experts have uncovered a flaw in a component of the operating system of Google Inc's widely used Android smartphone that they say hackers can exploit to gain control of the devices.

Researchers at startup cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said they have figured out how to use that bug to launch attacks and take control of some Android devices.

CrowdStrike, which will demonstrate its findings next week at a major computer security conference in San Francisco, said an attacker sends an email or text message that appears to be from a trusted source, like the user's phone carrier. The message urges the recipient to click on a link, which if done infects the device.

At that point, the hacker gains complete control of the phone, enabling him or her to eavesdrop on phone calls and monitor the location of the device, said Dmitri Alperovitch, chief technology officer and co-founder of CrowdStrike.

Google spokesman Jay Nancarrow declined comment on Crowdstrike's claim.

Alperovitch said the firm conducted the research to highlight how mobile devices are increasingly vulnerable to a type of attack widely carried out against PCs. In such instances, hackers find previously unknown vulnerabilities in software, then exploit those flaws with malicious software that is delivered via tainted links or attached documents.

He said smartphone users need to prepare for this type of attack, which typically cannot be identified or thwarted by mobile device security software.

"With modifications and perhaps use of different exploits, this attack will work on every smartphone device and represents the biggest security threat on those devices," said Alperovitch, who was vice president of threat research at McAfee Inc before he co-founded CrowdStrike.

Researchers at CrowdStrike were not the first to identify such a threat, though such warnings are less common than reports of malicious applications that make their way to online websites, such as Apple's App Store or the Android Market.

In July 2009, researchers Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner figured out a way to attack Apple's iPhone by sending malicious code embedded in text messages that was invisible to the phone's user. Apple repaired the bug in the software a few weeks after the pair warned it of the problem.

The method devised by CrowdStrike currently works on devices running Android 2.2, also known as Froyo. That version is installed on about 28 per cent of all Android devices, according to a Google survey conducted over two weeks ending February 1.

Alperovitch said he expects to have a second version of the software finished by next week that can attack phones running Android 2.3. That version, widely known as Gingerbread, is installed on another 59 per cent of all Android devices, according to Google.

CrowdStrike's method of attack makes use of a previously unpublicized security flaw in a piece of software known as webkit, which is built into the Android operating system's Web browser.

Webkit is also incorporated into other software programs, including Google's Chrome browser and the Apple iOS operating system for the iPhone and iPad.

CrowdStrike said it had not attempted to create software to attack iOS devices or the Chrome browser.

Manufacturers of Android devices include HTC Corp, LG Electronics Inc, Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc and Samsung Electronics Co.

Apple's iPhone 4S accounts 29% of smartphone market in UK‎

Apple’s iPhone 4S now accounts for around 29.1 per cent of the UK smartphone market, according to new research.

The research comes courtesy of Kantar Worldpanel, which found that 71.4 percent of British mobile phone sales were smartphones during Q4 of 2011.

‘Over half of the British population (50.3 per cent) now owns a smartphone,’ claimed the report.

Apple’s iPhone 4S accounted for 29.1 per cent of the UK smartphone market, making up almost one quarter of all smartphone sales in November and early December.

‘Android holds on to its lead but Apple is making inroads, increasing its share of the British market from 21.7 per cent a year ago to 29.1 per cent now, said Consumer Insight Director Dominic Sunnebo.

He added: ‘The jump we saw in Apple’s share last period was clearly not just a blip caused by the iPhone 4S release. Although the majority of growth is coming from the new handset, Apple’s latest pricing structure is also working in its favour with no discernable drop in sales of older iPhone 4 and 3GS models.’

Kantar expects Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform to grow by around eight per cent by the end of 2012, following the release of a new handsets after MWC 2012 and the arrival of the Windows Phone Tango and Apollo updates.

‘It seems that the Lumia 800 release has helped Nokia to maintain its customer loyalty,’ says Kantar, ‘albeit at a slower rate than it might wish for, with over a quarter of Windows Phone 7 customers having owned Symbian handsets in the past.’

Apple to Offer iPhone Through Second Chinese Carrier‎ 'China Telecom'

China Telecom, the country's third-largest wireless carrier, said Tuesday that it would start selling the iPhone 4S on March 9, ending China Unicom's three-year run as the only carrier allowed to sell the device in China.

The company will start taking pre-orders on March 2, both from its official website and outlets of Suning Appliance Co, according to a statement from the company.

China Telecom said that it would spend heavily on marketing the smartphone, which is likely to weigh on profits in the short term but "enhance its long-term sustainable growth and value creation."

The iPhone 4S is currently available in China through resellers, Apple's online store and China Unicom - the country's second-biggest wireless carrier, which started offering Apple Inc 's iPhones in China in 2009.

Shares in China Telecom, also the nation's top fixed-line operator, rose by 2.71 percent Monday, while its rival China Unicom traded flat.

According to a recent research result by one of the world's famous research firm, Gartner - Worldwide smartphone sales to end users soared to 149 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011, a 47.3 per cent increase from the fourth quarter of 2010, according to Gartner, Inc. Total smartphone sales in 2011 reached 472 million units and accounted for 31 percent of all mobile devices sales, up 58 percent from 2010.

Smartphone volumes during the quarter rose due to record sales of Apple iPhones. As a result, Apple became the third-largest mobile phone vendor in the world; overtaking LG. Apple also became the world's top smartphone vendor, with a market share of 23.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011, and the top smartphone vendor for 2011 as a whole, with a 19 percent market share.

Roberta Cozza, Principal Research Analyst, Gartner said, "Western Europe and North America led most of the smartphone growth for Apple during the fourth quarter of 2011. In Western Europe the spike in iPhone sales in the fourth quarter saved the overall smartphone market after two consecutive quarters of slow sales."

Datawind, the manufacture of Aakash Version 1 is out of Aakash project

Datawind, the Canadian company that was involved in the production of the world’s cheapest tablet Aakash will no longer be associated with the project, Telecom and HRD minister Kapil Sibal said on Monday.

The government has roped in the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and state-owned telecom equipment manufacturer Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) to further the development of the tablet computer. The minister said improved version of the tablet would be fully indigenous and would be launched soon at the same price.

"There have been some problems with Datawind, I must confess. Therefore, I have got into the act. IT ministry has got C-DAC and ITI into the act and I am going to ensure that this product is fully indigenous and truly an Indian product," he said.
A spokesperson of Datawind said the company “does not have any communication from the HRD ministry about this development.” To a query by Business Standard, ITI CMD K L Dhingra said the company was yet to get any official communication from the ministry. He, however, said ITI was quite capable of handling a project of this scale.

Originally developed by the Indian Institute of Technology-Rajasthan, Aakash tablet is available to students at Rs 1,100 after the government subsidy. So far, the manufacturing company Datawind has delivered 10,000 tablets to the Government of India. The project, however, ran into rough weather with allegations that it was using outdated technology with inadequate specifications. Besides, questions were also raised about the handling of tenders for the project by an educational institute like IIT-Rajasthan.

The Union HRD minister said the next version of the tablet Aakash-II would be launched sometime in the ongoing year. "Well, 2012... Aakash-II should be launched. There have been some hiccups in the way. Remember when you do a project of this nature and when your dream is as big as this, things are never that smooth."

Welcoming competition from market for development of the tablet, Sibal said the ultimate objective was to give a quality product to the children.

Pakistan AirForce making their own iPad tablets - PACPAD

Inside a high-security air force complex that builds jet fighters and weapons systems, Pakistan's military is working on the latest addition to its sprawling commercial empire: a homegrown version of the iPad.

It's a venture that bundles together Pakistani engineering and Chinese hardware, and shines a light on the military's controversial foothold in the consumer market. Supporters say it will boost the economy as well as a troubled nation's self-esteem.

It all comes together at an air force base in Kamra in northern Pakistan, where avionics engineers -- when they're not working on defense projects -- assemble the PACPAD 1.

"The original is the iPad, the copy is the PACPAD,'' said Mohammad Imran, who stocks the product at his small computer and cell phone shop in a mall in Rawalpindi, a city not far from Kamra and the home of the Pakistani army.

The device runs on Android 2.3, an operating system made by Google and given away for free. At around $200, it's less than half the price of Apple or Samsung devices and cheaper than other low-end Chinese tablets on the market, with the bonus of a local, one-year guarantee.

The PAC in the name stands for the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, where it is made. The PAC also makes an e-reader and small laptop.

Such endeavors are still at the pilot stage and represent just a sliver of the military's business portfolio, which encompasses massive land holdings, flour and sugar mills, hotels, travel agents, even a brand of breakfast cereal.

The military is powerful, its businesses are rarely subject to civilian scrutiny, and it has staged three coups since Pakistan became a state in 1947. Many Pakistanis find its economic activities corrupting and say it should focus on entirely on defense.

"I just can't figure it out,'' said Jehan Ara, head of Pakistan's Software Houses Association, said of the PACPAD. "Even if they could sell a billion units, I can't see the point. The air force is supposed to be protecting the air space and borders of the country.''

Supporters say the foray into information technology is a boost to national pride for a country vastly overshadowed by archrival India in the high-tech field. Tech websites in the country have shown curiosity or cautious enthusiasm, but say it's too early to predict how the device will perform. Skeptics claim it's a vanity project that will never see mass production.

Only a few hundred of each products has been made so far, though a new batch will be completed in the next three months.

"The defense industry is trying to justify its presence by doing more than just produce weapons,'' said Ayesha Siddiqa, author of Military Inc, a critical study of military businesses. "Some smart aleck must have thought we can make some money here.''

PAC's website at http://www.cpmc.pk says the goal is "strengthening the national economy through commercialization'' and lauds the collaboration with China -- something that likely resonates among nationalists.

China is regarded as a firm ally by Pakistan's security establishment, whereas the US, despite pouring billions of dollars in aid into the country, is seen as fickle and increasingly as an enemy.

These perceptions have heightened as the US intensifies drone attacks on militants based in the Pakistani borderlands. But the military is also a target of those militants. In 2007 the base at Kamra, home to 12,000 workers and their families, nine people died when a cyclist blew himself up at the entrance.

PAC officials suggested the program that produces the PACPAD was modeled in part on the Chinese military's entry into commercial industry, which lasted two decades until it was ordered to cut back lest it become corrupted and lose sight of its core mission.

The tablet and other devices are made in a low-slung facility, daubed in camouflage paint, near, a factory that produces J-17 Thunder fighter jets with Chinese help.

"It's about using spare capacity. There are 24 hours in a day, do we waste them or use them to make something?'' said Sohail Kalim, PAC's sales director. "The profits go to the welfare of the people here. There are lots of auditors. They don't let us do any hanky-panky here.''

PAC builds the PACPAD with a company called Innavtek in a Hong Kong-registered partnership that also builds high-tech parts for the warplanes.

But basic questions go unanswered. Maqsood Arshad, a retired air force officer who is one of the directors, couldn't say how much money had been invested, how many units the venture hoped to sell and what the profit from each sale was likely to be.

The market for low-cost Android tablets is expanding quickly around the world, with factories in China filling most of the demand. Last year, an Indian company produced the "Aakash'' tablet, priced at $50, and sold largely to schoolchildren and students.

Arshad said a second-generation PACPAD would be launched in the next three months, able to connect to the Internet via cell phone networks and other improved features. He said the Kamra facility could produce up to 1,000 devices a day.

During a brief test, The tablet with its 7-inch screen appeared to run well and the screen responsiveness was sharp. "It seems good, but operation-wise I have to look into it,'' said Mohammad Akmal, who had come to the store in Rawalpindi to check the product out. "Within a month or so, we will know.''

Amazon’s Kindle Fire takes the Second Spot after Apple in Tablets For Q4 surpassing Samsung

Amazon’s Kindle Fire has taken the No. 2 spot in tablet sales for the fourth quarter, surpassing Samsung, and coming in behind Apple’s iPad. The Kindle Fire’s strong sales shipped 3.9 million units in the fourth quarter, and took a 14 percent of the tablet market. The 7-inch tablet has defiantly struck a chord with consumers and showed that the form factor is very viable.

Samsung with its Galaxy Tab line of tablets had weaker sales than its competition, only shipping 2.4 million units for the fourth quarter, slipping to 8 percent of the market, down from 10 percent.

Apple shipped 15.4 million units during the fourth quarter, taking 57 percent of the market, down from 64 percent in the third quarter. Android tablets and the Kindle Fire have taken a bite out of Apple, but the company faced even more competition from its own mobile device, the iPhone, according to Rhoda Alexander, Senior Manager of tablet research for IHS.

The tablet market as a whole rose 55 percent to 27.1 million units, according to IHS.

Apple Loses China Smartphone Market Share in Q4 - a Tough Nut to Crack

The Chinese market has proven a particularly tough nut to crack for Apple. Overall, Apple has had an amazing year: they sold more iOS devices in 2011 than Macs in 28 years. In the last quarter of 2011 Apple’s iPhone business alone generated more revenue than Microsoft’s entire business. The iPhone even surpassed OS X in web market share in the last quarter. And yet, in the country where the iPhone is actually built, China, Apple’s share of the smartphone market fell.

In fact, Apple fell from fourth place to fifth place in the Chinese smartphone market. Chinese-based ZTE Corporation passed Apple to take fourth place in the world’s largest mobile phone market. The top three spots are occupied by Samsung, Nokia, and Huawei Technologies, another Chinese-based company.

Much of Apple’s difficulty apparently stems from the cost of the device, which is as much as two months’ salary for many Chinese workers. Apple’s market share in China fell from 10.4 percent in the third quarter of 2011 to 7.5 percent in the fourth quarter. The iPhone is currently only available through one Chinese mobile carrier, China Unicom, though Apple reportedly is working to bring the iPhone to China Telecom, the country’s smallest mobile carrier.

Amazon sells 3.9 million tablets in Q4 2011

Amazon.com shipped nearly 3.9 million Kindle Fire tablets in the last three months of 2011, making the online retail giant the world's second-largest tablet maker in the quarter, market research firm IHS said Thursday.

With the soaring sales of Kindle Fire, Amazon captured 14.3 percent of the global tablet market share in the quarter, surpassing Samsung Electronics to take the No. 2 position, according to a new report by IHS.

Apple remained the dominant player in the tablet market, shipping 15.4 million iPads, but its share dropped to 57 percent in the fourth quarter from 64 percent in the previous three months, said Xinhua.

The debut performance of the Kindle Fire, which hit the market only in mid-November of 2011, played a strong role in Apple's share shift, but it was Apple's own newly introduced iPhone 4S smartphone that proved to be the strongest competitor for the iPad, IHS analysts noted.

"The rollout of the iPhone 4S in October (in 2011) generated intense competition for Apple purchasers' disposable income, doing more to limit iPad shipment growth than competition from the Kindle Fire and other media tablets," Rhoda Alexander, senior manager of tablet and monitor research for IHS, said in a statement.

Looking forward, analysts predicted that Apple will reclaim its tablet market share when it starts to sell the next version of the iPad, which is expected in the second quarter of this year.

As for Kindle Fire, the long-term viability of the product will hinge on the success of Amazon's business gamble, "which depends on tablet sales driving substantial new online merchandise sales at Amazon.com in order to attain profitability", Alexander said.

GENWI’s Cloud Publish solution enables us to deliver contextual commerce, rich-media advertorials that are geo-location aware, and switch out advertisers or ad units on the fly. We are looking forward to providing a delightful mobile experience for our readers and blazing new trails in the mobile advertising space with GENWI.”

Given the flexibility of GENWI’s mobile content management system, the partnership with GENWI will allow TIL complete creative freedom and control to deliver a beautifully branded magazine-like experience on an app.

PJ Gurumohan, founder and chief executive officer, GENWI, said, “With the power of the cloud, Tweek will save time and production costs by reusing design layouts from week to week--all in standard web-based protocols such as HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. But, the most groundbreaking aspect of the application is the way it surfaces existing content and takes full advantage of the tablet experience to create higher levels of reader engagement and the flexibility to explore new monetisation channels.”

A note from the company informed that Tweek also enables the reader to not just read a story, but also listen to, watch it and thus, experience the content. In a first-of-its-kind, readers will be able to actively shape a magazine. They will be able to connect directly with the writers of Tweek, and share their feedback about the stories they enjoyed. Thus, they will be able to effectively Tweek the magazine to something they would look forward to reading every week.

Apple's iPad 3 the new version world's first Tablet to be launched on March 3,2012 says Reports

iPad 3 release date seems to have been confirmed for March 7, 2012. Apple is expected to announce something about the next iPad anytime now and speculations are running rife about the specs of the much anticipated next generation Apple tablet.

iPad 3 is expected to have a faster processor, bigger and better screen, compatibility with multiple networks and also a heftier bulk. Reports hint that all this would stop being a mystery when Apple comes out with the announcement on 7th March this year. This date has been made popular by Apple blog iMore, which enticingly cites “sources who have been reliable in the past.”

The blog also adds with confirmation that the next generation iPad will have a quad-core processor, though it states uncertainty about iPad 3 having LTE compatibility, as predicted by Boy Genius Report. Along with the prediction of BGR, the Wall Street Journal also states that iPad 3 will have LTE capability. Wall Street Journal reported that “people familiar with the matter” said Apple was preparing an LTE version for the Verizon and AT&T networks in the US. The Wall Street Journal also claims that Apple is testing a version of the iPad that has a smaller screen than the current model.

To make matters more confusing, iMore states that instead of iPad 3, LTE would come in the next iPhone. Then last week AllThingsD had reported that the next iPad would look much like the iPad 2 “but running a much faster chip, sporting an improved graphics processing unit and featuring a 2048×1536 Retina Display—or something close to it.

Then Tech Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research (TBR) was reported to have said that he expects Apple to offer “a 7-inch version of the iPad 3, in addition to a 9.7-inch version.”

Last week The Next Web stated regarding the release schedule that Apple had gone into ‘crunch mode’, a hint that final preparations just before the launch are well into process.

Despite the heated speculations, the exact date of iPad 3 launch is still a mystery as Apple never follows a strict schedule of gadgets releases and likes to keep the anticipation high by not leaking a single comment on the gadget before it is officially released.

The only thing strict about schedules in Apple is that a product goes on sale within a fortnight of it being announced. Last year Apple announced iPad 2 on March 2nd and the tablet hit the market a week later.

So far, without a word from Apple, it is all speculation. So much so that even the name of the next generation Apple tablet is being questioned. While the general term for it is iPad 3, but some sources claim it would be officially named iPad HD. Now, the iPhone that was to come after iPhone 4 was expected to be iPhone 5, but it turned out to be an improved version of iPhone 4 instead of a next generation gadget and was named iPhone 4S. Something similar might happen with the next iPad if it is to be named HD instead of 5.
