V.V. RAMANAN, who has been fascinated with facts and trivia for as long as he can remember, has been quizzing with a good degree of success for more than 35 years now.
Ramanan has won many a top prize at leading school, college, corporate, radio & television and Open quizzes. He has been a regional finalist in BBC's Mastermind India. He has been part of the team that has won the National final of the popular Landmark Quiz (arguably India's largest Open quiz) and Megawhats (the inter-city team quiz).
He has also helped conduct quizzes, by being a host or contributing content, for leading schools, colleges, clubs, corporate houses and TV channels.
Ramanan, whose quizzes have been featured in many publications, is at present the resident quizmaster at The Hindu, where he works on the Sports Desk as a senior journalist.
Ramanan has been writing the much-appreciated regular weekly quiz column for The Hindu Young World for the last 12 years (since early 2000). He has also been writing a quiz on computers and IT called `Cyber Quest' in The Hindu Business Line for the last 11 years, a movie quiz titled in the CinemaPlus supplement and a quiz in the Education Plus supplement of The Hindu.
Ramanan, who conceived the `The Hindu Young World Quiz', has been hosting the live, multi-city inter-high school quiz show from 2000 onwards. For the last five years, the quiz has been aimed at identifying the best quizzing talent from Classes VII to IX. The 2011 edition take place in 16 cities.
Ramanan has also authored three popular quiz books, namely 'The Hindu Young World Quiz Book Vol. 1', 'The Hindu Young World Quiz Book Vol. 2' and 'The Penguin India Quiz Book 3', for the Penguin Group.
A man of varied interests, Ramanan lives and works in Chennai.
