Apple will unveil the iPhone 5 at a media event on October 4, according to AllThingsD, which attributes the information to “sources close to the situation.” The story says the phone is likely to be available for purchase within a few weeks of the event.
Also noteworthy: the event is likely to be the first big product launch for new CEO Tim Cook; expect plenty of speculation, though, on a cameo appearance by chairman and co-founder Steve Jobs.

Indian Govt to launch Tablet computer for $35 on October 5
The much-awaited USD 35 computing-cum-access device, to be made available to students right from primary schools to universities, will be launched on October 5.
"The computer will be launched next month," HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said at a function here.
"This is not just a dream, it is a reality," he added.
Officials in the Ministry said the low-cost device will be launched on October 5.
Sibal said the name has already been finalised for the device and will announced at the launch. He, however, did not elaborate about the the device, which is being billed as the cheapest computer globally.
The computer will bring in immense benefits to the students and will be connected to the net and perform "all the functions that any other computer can perform. That's an enormously empowering tool", he said.
Sibal, who gave away the first IGNOU-instituted Rajiv Gandhi International Prize for technology in education development to Azim Premji in recognition of his foundation's role in the education sector, said IT has come to play an important role not only in the education sector but in other sectors as well.
He said while it gives scope to a child to transcend boundaries and acquire knowledge using the net, IT can also be used to root out corruption from the country.
"Much of the talk of corruption that we have had in the recent past will be dealt with through initiative of IT. What we need to do is to ensure the scope of human intervention which is the scope of all corruption is dealt with and IT plays an important role in finding solutions and we are in the process of doing it," he said.
The Minister, however, expressed concern over the quality of teaching in educational institutes and teachers, regretting that "we just don't have that quality teachers out there".
"For the last 64 years, we have felt that we just don't have that quality teachers out there. So one of the big initiatives of the 12th Five Year plan is going to be a mission on teacher education.
"This is what we are proposing to the Government in 12th plan to make it a very central mission in one its many missions," he said.
The prototype of the low cost tablet-type computing device which Sibal had unveiled in July last year is likely to be a 5/7/9 inch touchscreen gadget.
It would be packed with internet browsers, PDF reader, video conferencing facilities, open office, sci-lab, media player, remote device management capability, multimedia input-output interface option, and multiple content viewer.

Dear Customer,
There are two types of companies: those that work hard to charge customers more, and those that work hard to charge customers less. Both approaches can work. We are firmly in the second camp.
We are excited to announce four new products: the all-new Kindle for only $79, two new touch Kindles – Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G – for $99 and $149, and a new class of Kindle – Kindle Fire – a beautiful full color Kindle for movies, TV shows, music, books, magazines, apps, games, web browsing and more, for only $199.

Google puts Dead Sea Scrolls Live Online - dss.collections.imj.org.il
Two thousand years after they were written and decades after they were found in desert caves, some of the world-famous Dead Sea Scrolls went online for the first time on Monday in a project launched by Israel's national museum and the web giant Google.
The appearance of five of the most important Dead Sea scrolls on the Internet is part of a broader attempt by the custodians of the celebrated manuscripts — who were once criticized for allowing them to be monopolized by small circles of scholars — to make them available to anyone with a computer.
The scrolls include the biblical Book of Isaiah, the manuscript known as the Temple Scroll, and three others. Surfers can search high-resolution images of the scrolls for specific passages, zoom in and out, and translate verses into English.
The originals are kept in a secured vault in a Jerusalem building constructed specifically to house the scrolls. Access requires at least three different keys, a magnetic card and a secret code.
The five scrolls are among those purchased by Israeli researchers between 1947 and 1967 from antiquities dealers, having first been found by Bedouin shepherds in the Judean Desert.
The scrolls, considered by many to be the most significant archaeological find of the 20th century, are thought to have been written or collected by an ascetic Jewish sect that fled Jerusalem for the desert 2,000 years ago and settled at Qumran, on the banks of the Dead Sea. The hundreds of manuscripts that survived, partially or in full, in caves near the site, have shed light on the development of the Hebrew Bible and the origins of Christianity.
The most complete scrolls are held by the Israel Museum, with more pieces and smaller fragments found in other institutions and private collections. Tens of thousands of fragments from 900 Dead Sea manuscripts are held by the Israel Antiquities Authority, which has separately begun its own project to put them online in conjunction with Google.
Photography work on the project began earlier this month in conjunction with a former NASA scientist. An advanced $250,000 camera developed in Santa Barbara, California allows researchers to discern words and other details not visible to the naked eye.
The latest photography effort by two technicians is centered on a fragment of a manuscript known as the Thanksgiving Scroll. On a computer screen was a piece of the Apocryphon of Daniel, an Aramaic text that includes a verse referring to a figure who "will be called the son of God." The first fragments of that will be online by the end of the year.
The Antiquities Authority project, aimed chiefly at scholars, is tentatively set to be complete by 2016, at which point nearly all of the scrolls will be available on the Internet.

TRAI clears 100 SMSs per Day Doubts and exempts certain services from it
On Trai's recommendation of limiting 100 SMSs per day per SIM, Sarma said service providers such as dealers of telecom operators, e-ticketing agencies and social networking sites have been exempted from the regulation.
"We have issued a direction exempting certain categories from limitation of 100 SMSs per day. If genuine cases come to us, we will accept their request and exempt from some clauses. People need to inform us," Sarma said.
He added that on festival days there will be no limitation on the number of SMSs that can be send out from a single SIM.

Neutrinos exceeds the Speed of light, says OPERA results by CERN
The OPERA collaboration released calculations showing velocities of 17-GeV and 28-GeV neutrinos exceeding the speed of light in their experiments. The authors write, "Despite the large significance of the measurement reported here and the stability of the analysis, the potentially great impact of the result motivates the continuation of our studies in order to investigate possible still unknown systematic effects that could explain the observed anomaly." This result had not been detected by previous experiments, and lies in contrast to several others.
For instance, photons and neutrinos from SN 1987A were observed to have an agreement in transit time to about 1 part in 450 million, with even this difference being accounted for by light being impeded by the material of the star early in its journey. The OPERA results, in contrast, suggested that neutrinos were traveling faster than light by a factor of 1 in 40,000,i.e. that neutrino speed is 1.0000248(28) c. Had neutrinos from SN 1987A traveled faster than light by this factor, they would have arrived at Earth several years before the photons; this was not observed to be the case.
However, neutrinos from the supernova had orders of magnitude less energy than the neutrinos observed in the OPERA experiment, as the authors point out.
The idea that neutrinos could have a tachyonic nature was proposed as far back as 1985 by Chodos et al.Today, the possibility of having standard particles moving at superluminal speeds is a natural consequence of unconventional dispersion relations that appear in the Standard-Model Extension, a realistic description of the possible violation of Lorentz invariance in field theory. In this framework, neutrinos experience Lorentz-violating oscillations and can travel faster than light at high energies.
